The Ozark Plateau of Kansas is a part of the Ozarks of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas and contains the oldest surface rocks and only hardwood forest in the state. Mining has negatively influenced the ecology with hazardous surface effects evident, including abandoned mines, chat and tailings piles, subsidence, contamination, mine collapses and strong risk of future cave-ins. My project will assess topographic, landform and other characteristics of the Kansas Ozark Plateau to determine problems and propose possible corrections. |
